Once a month on a Sunday, from Spring through to Autumn, Clyde’s historic precinct comes alive with its Clyde on Sunday Markets.


There are 20+ stalls, including BBQs, specialty breads, olive oil, manuka smoked eggs, cheeses, wines and clothing to name a few, plus themed children’s activities. Treat yourself to locally grown fruits such as cherries, peaches and apricots over the summer season.


Come along with friends, relax, sit back and listen to live music, sip on a glass of local wine and soak up the atmosphere.

The historic precinct of Clyde is the venue for the Cuisine@Clyde food festival. Clyde is the perfect location for a festival that revolves around the celebration of food with the area’s abundance of wonderful produce from wild game to fresh fruits.


The extensive four-day programme includes masterchef classes with renowned local and national chefs and other food related demonstrations by local people with a wealth of knowledge. Entertainment runs into the evenings with a BBQ challenge event and a wine and food matching dinner.

The annual Clyde Wine and Food Harvest Festival is held on Easter Sunday each year in the main street of Clyde.


The festival celebrates wines from the world’s most southern vineyards and is Otago’s biggest wine event. The festival is restricted to wineries or wine producers in the Clyde, Earnscleugh, and Alexandra Basin.


Festival highlights include all-day live music, great food, market stalls, Central Otago products, and an art exhibition in the historic Dunstan Masonic Lodge.

XMAS LIGHTS CLYDE AND CAROL SERVICE

ALEXANDRA BASIN NEW WINE RELEASE

The Alexandra Basin New Wine Release is held on the Sunday of Labour Weekend in October. You’ll have the rare treat of finding many of the producers from Alexandra Basin represented there, offering their latest vintages.


The event runs from 1 till 4pm, and features all new releases of wine. There are a wide range of styles and different types of wine including (of course) Central Otago Pinot Noir - and also showing off Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Rosé.

RAIL TRAIL DUATHLON

The Trail Journeys Rail Trail Challenge Duathlon is a multi-sport event involving running and mountain biking the length of the Rail Trail over two days. Starting at Clyde and finishing in Middlemarch.

This historic festival has marked the arrival of spring for over 50 years. The first festival was born out of community spirit and recognition of the special character of the Alexandra/Clyde area. It has the unique feel of a country fair in a modern age.


The highlight of the festival is the grand procession of colourful handcrafted floats proudly parading down Centennial Avenue on the Saturday followed by an eclectic range of entertainment at Pioneer Park.

NATIONAL MARINO SHEARING AND WOOL CHAMPIONSHIP

The country’s only National Merino Shearing and Wool Championship is held every year in Alexandra. The competition has been going for 52 years. About 200 shearers and wool handlers compete over several days.

WOOLON™ CREATIVE FASHION EVENT

WoolOn™ is a unique fashion and design event encouraging the creative use of wool in fashion. Rapidly gaining an international reputation, with the event attracting entries from overseas as well as from all over New Zealand. Presentation of the awards is held during a gala evening on a Saturday, early in October.

LINGER & DIE ENDURO MTB RACE

The Linger & Die Downhill, held on Saturday, is a race from the top of the Clyde hill to the bottom. Open to all levels, from top ranked racers to novices, this event attracted nearly 100 entrants in 2013.


On Sunday, The Linger & Die Enduro starts on the Clyde hill, includes 4 special stages and is open to riders of all levels.
